Hooray for Being Healthy

Yesterday I posted on Twitter asking for gym bag recommendations. I really wasn’t into paying the price for a Lululemon bag so what better place to find information than the internets!

I got a few recommendations (and one for the actual Lululemon bag I was trying to avoid buying).

The reason I need a new gym bag is because on an impulse, I went and upgraded my Boston Sports Club membership so that I can go to any BSC. I did that so I can start going to the gym at lunch. I know, right? How motivated of me. We will see how it actually works out, though I am extremely optimistic.

My hours changed at work, thus making it very difficult to get to the gym near my house in the morning, and let’s be honest, if I wait until after work to get my workout in, it just is NOT going to happen. I lose all motivation at the end of the workday.

Of course this means I will look like more of a hot mess during the day because I am not going to be applying makeup twice and I will have sweaty gross hair in the afternoons, but it’s a small price to pay for health, right?

Anyway, back to the bag. So I committed myself to the noon spin class today, so I needed a gym bag stat, thus eliminating the online purchase option. After attempting to find a reasonably priced bag at Citysports that had all of the features I was looking for, I got frustrated and left. I wanted a short-handle medium size bag with a “wet” pocket and smaller pockets inside the bag. Yes, I give up easily as I gave up after one store and ended up forking over the money for the Lululemon bag. $98 later (plus tax), I had a fancy schmancy gym bag.

It had everything I was looking for and to be honest, I just wanted to get my bag so I could get home to watch Gossip Girl. Priorities, people.

In other news, I have also taken up yoga again. I used to go every week to a studio in Cambridge, but since that studio closed, I had yet to find a studio that I actually liked. (I’m a yoga snob, I will not under any circumstances, take yoga at the gym. Both times I’ve done it it’s the most sorry excuse for yoga that I have ever seen). I finally found a studio near my house that isn’t great, but will do. I am committed to going at least once a week, twice if I am feeling motivated to attend a second class on the weekends.

I have also been on point with my food the last couple of weeks. I have been making my own protein bars for my breakfast and bringing lunch from home at least 4 out of 5 days.

I am on a STREAK y’all! Now let’s hope all this work pays off and I can fit into a bikini come June. I know that’s a long way away and I don’t have THAT much to lose…but the way this healthy living thing usually goes for me, that’s how long it will take me to get my butt into bathing suit shape. At least I’m being honest.

What healthy things have you done lately?

The healthiest thing I have done for myself today was bringing in the leftover cupcakes I made this weekend. If they sit in my house for one more minute I will eat them all. Alone, because Scott is in Kentucky for work. Oh I also brought my gym bag today. Yours is very fancypants! I like it!

  2. Wow I’m so proud of you! You’re kicking ass! While my ass is growing by the second…
I love working out at lunch, and for days where I do anything causes enough sweat to make my hair soaking wet, I skip out a few minutes early and hop in the shower. Every other day I just throw it in a ponytail and generously spritz perfume.
And I really need to get back into yoga. Ever since we lost the one instructor I can’t take it at my gym anymore.
Wow this is a long comment…
    Sooo uhhhhh… alright then.

That’s a pretty bag! My gym bag looks way lame compared to that one, hah.

One healthy thing I’ve done lately was move the furniture in our guest room because my parents bought a treadmill. So tonight I will hopefully have a date with that death machine. Ugh. But its good for me and means I will have no excuses for not working out.

  4. What do you think of BSC? I am about to sign up for the 30 day trial … I need a gym close to my house, and it fits the bill.

The healthiest thing I have done is started doing tons of cardio. I hate it and I have to force myself, but it must be done.

I have belonged to pretty much every gym there is in MA and BSC is by far the best (and most consistent from location to location). Planet Fitness is cheap but doesn’t have classes and some locations are just plain NASTY. LA Fitness is uber trendy and always extremely crowded, no matter when you go (they also FORCE their trainers on you all the time). The other smaller ones are alright, but I like having the option to go to different locations. BSC is hands down the way to go.

I am currently thinking of upgrading my membership for the same reason. Stupid, because there’s a gym at work I can use for free. But it’s small and I really don’t want my coworkers in my workout space. I haven’t decided for sure though.
I use a gross bag I bought at Old Navy. Probably about time for an upgrade.

I am with you, I could not workout with coworkers present. Traveling a lot sucks for that reason too because sometimes I’m with the same person for a week and we obviously have the same schedule so it’s inevitable to be in the gym at the same time…but I hate it.

  6. I just started up with yoga again too … like today. Oddly enough, I already feel relaxed and can’t wait to do it again tomorrow. How did I ever stop doing this??

And um, yea. LOVE the lululemon bag!

Wow, spin class over your lunch? That is seriously impressive- well played! I like your game plan. I’m like you- if I leave a workout for after work it will never happen. I’m much more of a morning workout girl. My hours have been much earlier for the past few weeks and I’ve been forcing myself to get up at 5:15 to work out- I’m so ready for that to be over, but I’m happy that I’ve muscled through.

I love how motivated I am while on a healthy streak!

Lunch time gym is the best. I have done the AM thing- SO tired the rest of the day. When I can’t go at lunch I almost never have motivation after work. Plus at least I am doing something over my break.. I used to sit and watch tv/ gossip for an hour and I feel much better now that I am working out.

    Yay for gym buddies too!!

Hope the workout went well. I’ve been drinking less so I guess that’s healthy and it saves money.

  10. Sounds like you’ve got quite a healthy streak going there! My single best friend when I am working out during my lunch break is dry shampoo — even the Tresemme foam is enough so that I don’t look like I accidentally drowned in a swimming pool while eating my sandwich! My gym was just bought out by another one over the summer, so I’m hoping to check out the other locations and their class schedules. I go through phases where I either love or hate classes, but something they’re really the kick in the ass that I need.

    Get it, girl!

Thats awesome that you can go to all the gyms in the area now and even on your lunch. I’ve never had the chance to do that but think I could love it since I would just sit there and eat lunch at my desk most of the time. Diggin the gym bag as well, it’s looks nothing like what I envision a gym bag to be but I still think it’s great.

  12. They always say that nice workout clothes are motivating. I would assume a cute new workout bag would be equally so. Right?

What healthy things have I done lately? Um… well I’ve still been running as usual. And I’ve been switching up breakfast to eggs and such instead of just plain ol’ oatmeal. So it’s like I’m more balanced… right?
