HI friends!
I am heading back home for the weekend today! Then it’s off to Houston next week. In the meantime, I ate at some really great places this week while in San Diego.
First up, we have an oceanside restaurant in Del Mar called Poseidon.
Poseidon has both a funky indoor diningroom, as well as a laid back oceanside patio with amazing views.
To start, Poseidon serves warm bread and butter. You all know how I feel about warm bread and butter. YUM.
For an appetizer I ordered the macadamia nut crusted brie with assorted crackers and jalapeno jelly.
The brie was good, but not great by any means. The fact that it was warm was the only distinguishing factor. The macadamia nut crust had very little favor and the fact that it was flash fried actually competed with the flavor of the brie. On the plus side, the crackers were warmed as well and the grapes were fresh.
My boss ordered the black sake steamed mussels and a side salad with shrimp (unpictured) for her entree.
Even though I don’t eat seafood, they looked pretty tasty, and my boss said they were amazing.
For my entree I actually ordered another appetizer of the Garden Veggie Flatbread with kalamata olives, goat cheese spread, balsamic onions, tomatoes, grilled artichokes, sweet pepper, arugula, and pine nuts.
It was delicious, but there was too much arugula. The strong flavors of the goat cheese and kalamata olives melded well with the milder artichokes and arugula. Although it was a bit messy, I still managed to eat all but two little pieces.
For my dessert, I ordered the banana brulee with coffee gelato and coconut coated chocolate truffles.
The banana was delicious, and I could see the coffee bean chunks in the gelato, which took it to a whole other level. The coconut covered chocolate truffles did nothing for me. I am not the biggest fan of coconut, so I ate one and let my boss have the other.
Just as we were about to pay, the sun began to set over the water, providing a stunning view.
The absolute best part of Poseidon is the view. As far as the food goes, it’s adequate. Nothing that I would go out of my way to get again, but I would definitely go out of my way for that view.

That banana brulee sounds freaking phenomenal.
Beautiful view! I’d eat good but not great food to have that view
Minus the pine nuts, I’d have inhaled that flatbread- all my favorites!
I would be all over that flatbread. I’d probably pick some of the arugula off though. You’re right, that’s way too much.
