Lou Malnati’s

I have a confession. Up until last week, I have never had deep dish pizza.

Naturally when I was in Chicago last week, I knew it was time. After taking a survey of the best pizza in town, it was about split between Gino’s and Lou Malnati’s. When Amy said that Lou Malnati’s was much better than Gino’s, I decided to take her advice.

You know what goes GREAT with pizza? Beer of course. I ordered a new-to-me beer called Matilda that I found absolutely exquisite. It was an extremely complex beer with a lot of flavors, not the least of which was fruit and cinnamon. I wish they sold it in Boston.

My coworker and I decided to keep it simple and just order the regular cheese deep dish.

Oh. My. Yum. I fully intended to eat two pieces (which is how much I eat with a regular pizza) but I could only get through one piece of this pizza before I was stuffed. It totally and completely rocked my taste buds. I am overwhelming sad that I don’t know when I’m going to be able to have pizza like this again. I cannot say enough good things and I think I may be ruined for regular pizza forever.

I cannot wait to go back to Chicago for this pizza. I am sure I will dream about it until then.

What’s your favorite kind of pizza? Deep dish, bar style, flat bread?

  1. I am so glad you liked Lou’s.

Just this weekend I had to divert another group of people to Lou’s from Gino’s. I’m saving the world one deep dish at a time.

  2. That looks amazing. Deep dish is a gift from God.

  3. We’re happy to hear that you enjoyed your meal – you snapped some great pictures! We hope you get to dine with us again :)

I love Giordano’s. Have not tried Lou’s although I have heard great things about them. Can’t stand Gino’s. Grassano’s and Waldo Cooney’s are two others that I can’t get enough of.
